I'd been driving the A835 for about six weeks when it happened. That isn't a long time, but it was long enough to know the road well. Long enough to stop thinking about it. The job was simple. I hauled culvert sections, fencing materials and other supplies to a commercial forestry site near the boundary of Inverpolly National Nature Reserve, then drove the lorry back empty or nearly empty, depending on what the contractor needed moved.
